What are the Panda Express plate sizes?

Panda Express plate sizes differ only in how many entrees you get. Every meal comes with one side, and you add one, two or three entrees from the steam table. A Bowl gets one, a Plate two and a Bigger Plate three.

Two more sizes sit outside that ladder. The Panda Cub Meal gives kids a junior side and junior entree with fruit and a drink. The Family Meal packs two large sides and three large entrees for about five people. Prices below are typical 2026 ranges from our Panda Express menu research; in-store prices usually sit at the low end.

How big is a plate at Panda Express?

A Panda Express Plate weighs roughly 20 to 24 ounces, or about 1.25 to 1.5 pounds. That comes from the serving weights in Panda's nutrition data, compiled by Nutritionix: one side is 11 oz of chow mein, fried rice or white rice, and one entree scoop runs 4.4 to 6.7 oz depending on the dish.

The same math puts a Bowl at about 15 to 18 oz and a Bigger Plate at about 24 to 31 oz, close to 2 pounds at the top end. Picking Super Greens as your side trims an ounce, since that side is listed at 10 oz.

Denser, saucier dishes weigh more per scoop. Kung Pao Chicken and Grilled Teriyaki Chicken are the heaviest common entrees, while Honey Walnut Shrimp is the lightest. Staff scoop by hand, so your plate can land a little above or below these numbers.

How big are Panda Express a la carte sizes?

A small a la carte entree is one meal-size scoop, the same 4.4 to 6.7 oz that goes on a Plate. A large is about three scoops, roughly 13 to 20 oz. We could not find ounces for the a la carte boxes from Panda, but a menu board gives it away: a 2023 Panda Express board at Denver's airport listed a la carte entrees at 150 to 1,530 calories across sizes. That is one scoop of Broccoli Beef at the low end and three scoops of Orange Chicken (3 x 510) at the top.

The medium entree is the hard one. We could not find its weight or calorie range from Panda or a reliable source, so treat it as somewhere between one and three scoops.

Sides work the same way. The same board listed medium and large sides at 130 to 1,240 calories, so a medium side matches the 11 oz side in a meal and a large is about two of them (2 x 620 for fried rice). The University of Hawaii at Manoa's campus store says a large side serves 2 and a large entree 3 to 4.

Panda Express plate prices: is a Plate cheaper than a la carte?

Yes, in almost every case. A medium a la carte entree runs about $8.60 to $10.50 by itself, while a Plate at $10.30 to $12.60 gives you two scoops plus an 11 oz side. Chowhound ran the numbers in 2025: a medium entree and a medium fried rice bought separately came to more than $13, versus about $8.60 for a Bowl.

The Bigger Plate is the better buy if you want three scoops. A large a la carte entree, about three scoops, costs around $13 to $14, while a Bigger Plate at $11.80 to $15.00 adds a full side for roughly the same money. Chowhound reached the same verdict: the Bigger Plate beats a side plus a large entree.

A la carte makes sense in two cases: you only want one entree with no side, or you are adding a scoop to share. Premium entrees cost about $1.50 more per scoop in any meal.

What are your Panda Express plate options?

You pick one side and then your entrees. The four regular sides are chow mein, fried rice, white steamed rice and Super Greens, and you can ask for half and half of two sides in place of one.

The entree line usually includes The Original Orange Chicken, Grilled Teriyaki Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Honey Sesame Chicken Breast, SweetFire Chicken Breast, String Bean Chicken Breast, Mushroom Chicken, Beijing Beef and Broccoli Beef at the base price. Black Pepper Sirloin Steak and Honey Walnut Shrimp are premium picks with an upcharge. Super Greens also comes as an entree portion, a 7 oz scoop at 90 calories.

How much food is in a Panda Express Family Meal?

By the same calorie math, a Family Meal's three large entrees equal about nine meal-size scoops, and its two large sides equal about four regular sides. Panda pitches it as dinner for about five people.

That makes it roughly three Bigger Plates' worth of entrees plus one extra side. Three Bigger Plates cost about $35.40 to $45.00, and a Family Meal runs about $35.00 to $49.20, so the bundle is mostly about convenience and the extra side rather than a deep discount. Frequently asked questions

How big is a Panda Express Cub Meal?

A Panda Express Cub Meal uses junior portions that are about three-quarters of a regular scoop. In Panda's nutrition data, a junior Orange Chicken is 4.4 oz versus 5.9 oz, and a junior chow mein is 8.25 oz versus 11 oz. The meal adds a fruit side and a kids' drink for about $7.30 to $8.20.

Can you get two sides on a Panda Express plate?

Each Panda Express meal includes one side, but you can split it half and half between two sides, such as chow mein and Super Greens. You get the same single side portion, divided in two, not two full sides. If you want a second full side, you would add an a la carte side, which runs about $4.60 to $5.55.

Is Super Greens a side or an entree at Panda Express?

Both. At Panda Express, Super Greens is offered as a side, a 10 oz portion at 130 calories, and as an entree, a 7 oz scoop at 90 calories. Ordering it as your side instead of chow mein or fried rice cuts roughly 470 to 490 calories from a meal while keeping the plate size.

How much extra are premium entrees at Panda Express?

Premium entrees at Panda Express, such as Honey Walnut Shrimp and Black Pepper Sirloin Steak, add about $1.50 per scoop to a Bowl, Plate or Bigger Plate. Bought a la carte, a small premium entree runs about $6.90 to $8.30, compared with $5.40 to $6.50 for a regular entree.

How many calories are in a Panda Express Plate?

A Panda Express Plate ranges from about 430 to 1,640 calories. The low end is Super Greens with two scoops of Broccoli Beef; the high end is fried rice with two scoops of Orange Chicken. The side matters most: rice and noodles run 520 to 620 calories, while Super Greens is 130.
