What's on the In-N-Out menu

Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first In-N-Out on October 22, 1948, in a stand of about 100 square feet in Baldwin Park, California. The company is still family-owned and led by their granddaughter, Lynsi Snyder. It passed 400 restaurants in December 2023 with a store in Meridian, Idaho, then added Washington in August 2025 and Tennessee in December 2025, its tenth state.

The posted menu has barely changed in decades: three burgers, fries, shakes in chocolate, vanilla or strawberry, and drinks. The fun is in how you order, from Animal Style to lettuce-wrapped Protein Style. In-N-Out's own nutrition page puts a Double-Double with spread and onion at 610 calories and an order of fries at 360. Prices here are typical estimates and run higher in some states.

  1. Order Protein Style to swap the bun for lettuce; it drops a Double-Double from 610 to 460 calories on In-N-Out's nutrition page.
  2. Ask for mustard and ketchup instead of spread to save 50 to 60 calories on a burger, according to the official numbers.
  3. Try a 3x3 or add a single extra patty for about $2 when a Double-Double isn't quite enough.
  4. Order a Double-Meat, which is on the official not-so-secret list, if you want two patties without the cheese.
  5. Order a Grilled Cheese if someone in your group doesn't eat beef; it gets the same toppings and spread.
