Zaxbys gives you more chicken in a standard finger order, while Chick-fil-A sells smaller portions at lower prices. Per piece, the two are close on protein.

Chick-fil-A's Chick-n-Strips are breaded strips of chicken breast. Three strips cost about $5.39 to $5.99 and have 310 calories with 29 grams of protein; four cost $6.75 to $7.85 for 410 calories and 39 grams. A medium order of waffle fries adds 420 calories if you want a side.

Zaxbys builds its menu around hand-breaded Chicken Fingerz, usually sold as plates. Five fingers on their own, with no sauce, have 420 calories and 45 grams of protein. The Big Zax Snak Meal adds crinkle fries, Texas toast and a sauce to three fingers for $7.69 to $9.29 and 890 calories. The Chicken Finger Plate with four fingers adds coleslaw too and costs $10.49 to $11.99 for 1,110 calories.

So a Zaxbys plate is a much bigger meal. If you want a lighter lunch, Chick-fil-A's three-strip order with a medium fruit cup lands under 400 calories, while almost every Zaxbys plate starts near 900 calories before a drink.

Which has better sauce, Chick-fil-A Sauce or Zax Sauce?

On calories, Chick-fil-A Sauce and Zax Sauce are almost identical, at 140 and 150 calories per serving. Chick-fil-A offers more low-calorie sauce choices, while Zaxbys adds dry rubs and spicier wing sauces.

Chick-fil-A's lineup includes Chick-fil-A Sauce, Polynesian, Honey Mustard, Garden Herb Ranch, Barbeque, Zesty Buffalo, Sweet & Spicy Sriracha and Honey Roasted BBQ. Several sit at 60 calories or less per 28-gram serving, according to Chick-fil-A's nutrition page.

Zaxbys includes one cup of sauce with most meals and charges about $0.25 to $0.79 for extra cups. Zax Sauce and ranch are about 150 calories a cup and Spicy Zax Sauce is 170, while the hot sauce Tongue Torch is just 20. The three dry rubs, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Parmesan and Nashville Hot, became permanent in February 2026 and add only 40 to 70 calories.

Zaxbys also has a seasonal pick: Honey Chipotle Sauce reached Zax Rewardz members early on Oct. 26 and rolled out nationwide on Nov. 2, 2026; it is scheduled to run through Jan. 18, 2027. The table compares the main sauces.

Which is the better value, Chick-fil-A or Zaxbys?

Chick-fil-A is cheaper for a single sandwich or nuggets, while Zaxbys plates give you more food for the money when you are very hungry. Neither chain has a dedicated dollar menu.

Sandwiches: the original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich costs about $4.99 to $5.85 for 420 calories and 29 grams of protein. The Zaxbys Signature Sandwich runs about $5.29 to $7.29 for 600 calories and 31 grams. The Zaxbys Kickin' Chicken Sandwich is $5.29 to $7.99.

Meals: a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich meal with medium waffle fries and a drink ran $8.85 to $10.39 at the stores we checked. Zaxbys' lower-priced plates are the Boneless Wings Meal (5) at $7.49 to $9.99 and the Big Zax Snak Meal at $7.69 to $9.29.

Nuggets: a 12-count of Chick-fil-A Nuggets costs $6.95 to $8.15 for 40 grams of protein, only about $2 more than the 8-count.

Groups: Chick-fil-A's Family Style Meals bundle a large entree, two sides and rolls for about $30.49 to $35.49. Zaxbys sells Zax Packz family packs, but we could not verify a national price.

A few ordering habits stretch your money at both chains. At Chick-fil-A, check your store in the app first, because mall and airport units often charge more. At Zaxbys, choose your sauce up front, since extra cups usually cost extra, and compare a family pack with separate plates in the app before ordering for a group. Which has healthier options, Chick-fil-A or Zaxbys?

Chick-fil-A has more low-calorie options, especially grilled chicken, while Zaxbys has the bigger high-protein salads. Most Zaxbys plates land between 900 and 1,500 calories before a drink, so ordering a full plate is the main thing to watch.

At Chick-fil-A, 8-count Grilled Nuggets have 130 calories and 25 grams of protein, the 12-count has 200 calories and 38 grams, and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich has 390 calories. The Market Salad with a grilled filet is 550 calories, and a medium fruit cup is 70.

At Zaxbys, the grilled House Zalad has 560 calories and 48 grams of protein before dressing, and the grilled Cobb Zalad has 660 calories and 56 grams. The Grilled Chicken Sandwich has 620 calories and 38 grams. Choosing a dry rub over creamy sauce saves about 80 to 110 calories.

When are Chick-fil-A and Zaxbys open?
