Quick answer

For the lowest price, McDonald's wins: a Hamburger runs about $1.69 to $2.39 and the $5 McChicken Meal Deal is the cheapest full bundle. Wendy's wins on signature-burger value with a $7.99 Dave's Single combo. Burger King's Whopper packs the most calories (710), and its $7 Trio is a flexible middle ground.

Key takeaways

  • A Big Mac costs about $5.15 to $7.99, a Whopper about $5.60 to $8.00 and a Dave's Single about $5.79 to $6.19 in 2026 reporting and menu checks.
  • McDonald's has the cheapest complete bundle: the $5 McChicken Meal Deal includes a McChicken, 4-piece McNuggets, small fries and a small drink.
  • Wendy's $7.99 Dave's Single combo, sold for a limited time from Oct. 19, 2026, undercuts the typical Big Mac Meal ($8.29 to $12.00) and the Whopper Meal ($10.29 at Texas stores).
  • The Whopper is the heaviest of the three signature burgers at 710 calories, versus 580 for the Big Mac and 560 for the Dave's Single.
  • Wendy's Jr. Hamburger is the lowest-calorie burger of the three chains at 230 calories, just under the McDonald's Hamburger (250) and the Burger King Hamburger (260).

Which burger chain gives you the most for your money in 2026?

McDonald's is the cheapest of the three if you want the lowest possible bill, Wendy's gives the best deal on a full-size signature burger right now, and Burger King gives you the most food per sandwich. Which one wins for you depends on whether you are buying a snack, a full meal or a big burger.

We compared the three chains on the items most people actually order: the signature burger, the cheapest burgers, the bundled meal deals, fries and breakfast, plus each chain's rewards app. Prices are typical U.S. prices and vary by location, since franchise owners set their own menus.

One caution before the numbers. The sources behind each chain's prices are not identical. Wendy's prices come from its own pickup menu at 17 restaurants, checked on Oct. 27, 2026. McDonald's prices mix 2026 national reporting with a July 2026 delivery-menu snapshot from one Ohio store. Many Burger King prices come from a July 2026 delivery-menu snapshot too, and delivery menus usually run higher than the counter. So a Burger King item that looks a dollar more expensive may be closer in person. Where a price is from a delivery menu, we say so.

For each chain's full menu, see our McDonald's menu, Burger King menu and Wendy's menu pages.

Big Mac vs Whopper vs Dave's Single: which signature burger is the best value?

The Whopper gives you the most food, the Big Mac is usually the cheapest of the three at the low end, and the Dave's Single has the tightest price range. On calories per dollar at the cheapest stores, the Whopper comes out ahead.

Big Mac

The Big Mac runs about $5.15 to $7.99. The low end is a 2026 national average, and Los Angeles stores sit near the top. It has two small patties, special sauce and a three-part bun for 580 calories.

Whopper

Burger King updated the Whopper in 2026 with a new bun, upgraded mayo and a new carton. Expect about $5.60 to $8.00, with rural stores at the low end. It lists 710 calories, which makes it the largest of the three standard signature burgers. At $5.60, that works out to roughly 127 calories per dollar, compared with about 113 for a Big Mac at $5.15.

Dave's Single

Wendy's Dave's Single is a quarter-pound burger that cost $5.79 to $6.19 across the middle of our 17-store sample, with 560 calories. Its price range is the narrowest of the three, so you are less likely to get a surprise at the register.

What about the doubles?

If you want a bigger burger, Wendy's Dave's Double ($7.19 to $7.69, 810 calories) is the cheapest full-size double we found. A Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese was $9.19 on one Ohio delivery menu, and a Double Whopper was $11.09 on a delivery menu, so both may cost less in a restaurant. The Double Whopper still tops the field at 980 calories.

Which chain has the cheapest burger?

McDonald's and Wendy's tie for the cheapest burger, each selling a plain hamburger for under $2.50 at most stores. For a double patty under $4, the McDouble is the best buy.

The McDonald's Hamburger runs about $1.69 to $2.39 (some travel-plaza stores charge close to $4), while the Wendy's Jr. Hamburger cost $1.79 to $2.49 in our sample. The Burger King Hamburger was $2.89 on a delivery menu.

The better buy at all three is the cheapest double. The McDouble gives you two patties and a slice of cheese for about $2.50 to $3.19, and it sits on the McDonald's Under $3 Menu. Wendy's Double Stack is close behind at $3.19 to $3.70. If you want toppings, Wendy's Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger ($2.99 to $3.59) adds bacon, lettuce and tomato, which makes it the most complete burger in this price range.

Burger King's cheapest burgers look pricier here partly because the prices come from a delivery menu. The Rodeo Burger, with onion rings and BBQ sauce on a single patty, was $3.29 on that menu and is worth a look if you want something different from a basic cheeseburger.

Which $5 to $8 meal deal is the best value?

The McDonald's $5 McChicken Meal Deal is the cheapest complete meal of the three. Wendy's Biggie Bag gives you a similar lineup for $6 to $7, and Burger King's $7 Trio is the most flexible.

McDonald's Meal Deals

The $5 McChicken Meal Deal comes with a McChicken, 4-piece McNuggets, small fries and a small drink. The $6 version swaps in a McDouble. Both are part of the McValue lineup and cost about what a Big Mac costs on its own.

Wendy's Biggie Deals

Wendy's sells three tiers: Biggie Bites (one small item plus a small drink, $4 to $5), the Biggie Bag (a sandwich such as a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger or Double Stack, plus nuggets, fries and a small drink, $6 to $7), and the Biggie Bundle (two sandwiches plus fries and a drink, $8 to $9). Prices run higher in Alaska, California, Hawaii and some other stores. For a limited time from Oct. 19, 2026, Wendy's also sells a Dave's Single combo with small fries and a small drink for $7.99.

Burger King Duo and Trio

Burger King's $5 Duo and $7 Trio let you pick two or three items from a list that includes the Whopper Jr., Original Chicken Sandwich, 8-piece Chicken Fries, medium fries and a medium drink. A Whopper Jr., medium fries and a medium drink for $7 is a fair meal, and you can skip the drink and take two sandwiches instead.

The verdict on deals

If you just want to be fed for the least money, McDonald's at $5 wins. If you want a full-size burger in your combo, the Wendy's $7.99 Dave's Single combo is the best deal of the three while it lasts. A regular Big Mac Meal runs $8.29 to $12.00, and the Whopper Meal was $10.29 at Texas stores outside Dallas.

Who wins on fries, breakfast and dessert?

Wendy's has the cheapest dessert, McDonald's has the most complete $4 breakfast bundle, and fries are close to a draw on price.

Fries

A medium order costs $2.99 to $4.19 at McDonald's (320 calories) and $2.99 to $3.49 at Wendy's (350 calories). We could not confirm a reliable Burger King fry price, but its medium fries list 370 calories. Burger King is the only one of the three that sells onion rings, and a medium order is 290 calories.

Breakfast

All three sell a cheap breakfast bundle. McDonald's $4 Breakfast Meal Deal includes a Sausage McMuffin or Sausage Biscuit, hash browns and a small coffee, so the drink is covered. Burger King's 2 for $3 Mix & Match lets you pair items such as a Sausage Biscuit and French Toast Sticks. Wendy's $3 Breakfast Biggie Bundle lets you pick two breakfast items at participating stores. Breakfast usually ends around 10:30 a.m. at all three chains, though some McDonald's stores serve until 11 a.m. Our fast food breakfast hours guide lists each chain's cutoff.

Dessert

A junior Chocolate Frosty at Wendy's costs $1.59 to $1.90 and has 190 calories, which makes it the cheapest sweet treat here. McDonald's Baked Apple Pie runs about $1.89 to $1.99 and its Chocolate Chip Cookie about $1.79. Burger King's Cinnamon Apple Pie costs $1.99 to $2.59.

Which burger chain's rewards app saves you the most?

McDonald's rewards pay back fastest on small items, while Wendy's points last longer. Use whichever app matches the chain you visit most, because each one only pays out at its own restaurants.

  • MyMcDonald's Rewards: You earn 100 points per $1 and can start redeeming at 1,500 points. According to The Points Guy's August 2026 guide, a McChicken or cheeseburger costs 2,000 points, which is $20 of spending, and a Big Mac costs 7,000 points. Points expire after about six months.
  • Burger King Royal Perks: Members earn 10 Crowns per $1, and Crowns expire roughly six months after you earn them. After a November 2025 revamp, the lowest reward tier starts at 200 Crowns, or about $20 of spending.
  • Wendy's Rewards: You earn 10 points per $1 on food. A Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger or small chili costs 350 points, a Dave's Single 700 and a Baconator 900. New members get 200 bonus points after their first purchase, and points last 365 days.

On paper, a McChicken worth $3.49 to $4.19 for $20 of spending is the strongest payback of the three. We compare all 15 programs in our fast food rewards apps ranking.

So which one should you choose?

Pick McDonald's for the cheapest meal, Wendy's for the best full-size burger deal, and Burger King for the biggest burger or a mix-and-match order.

  • Feeding yourself for $5: McDonald's $5 McChicken Meal Deal.
  • A real quarter-pound burger with fries and a drink: Wendy's $7.99 Dave's Single combo while it runs.
  • The most burger in one sandwich: Burger King's Whopper at 710 calories, or a Double Whopper at 980.
  • The cheapest dessert: a junior Frosty at Wendy's.
  • A lighter order: Burger King's Flame-Grilled Chicken Sandwich has 410 calories and 35 grams of protein, and Wendy's large chili has 370 calories and 25 grams of protein. See our healthiest fast food orders for more.
  • Protein on a budget: our high-protein fast food guide covers the best picks under 600 calories at each chain.

Whichever you choose, open the chain's app before you order. All three run app-only offers that change often and can beat the menu-board price on the same item.

Usually not. McDonald's has the cheaper entry points, including a Hamburger at about $1.69 to $2.39 and a $5 McChicken Meal Deal.
