Sonic Hours 2026: Opening, Closing and 24-Hour Drive-Ins

What are Sonic hours on a normal day?

Sonic hours depend on the drive-in, but the usual pattern is an early-morning opening and a late close. On Nov. 1, 2026, we pulled the posted hours for 611 drive-ins in 57 metro areas across 30 states from Sonic's own store locator. Every one of them listed hours for all seven days of the week.

Among the 567 stores that are not open around the clock, the typical weekday ran from 6 or 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. or midnight. That is a longer day than most burger chains keep, and it is why Sonic works as both a morning coffee stop and a late-night snack run.

The spread is wide, though. Some stores open at 10 a.m., and a handful close at 9 or 9:30 p.m. Most drive-ins are run by franchisees who set hours around local traffic, so two stores a few miles apart can keep very different schedules. What time does Sonic open?

Most Sonic drive-ins open at 6 or 7 a.m. on weekdays. In our sample, 37% of non-24-hour stores opened at 6 a.m. or earlier, 30% opened between 6:30 and 7 a.m., and 20% opened at about 8 a.m. That means 87% were serving by 8 a.m.

The late openers are a real group, too. About 13% opened at 9 a.m. or later, with 10 a.m. the latest common time. Stores in Phoenix stood out: 10 of the 12 we checked opened at 8 a.m.

What time does Sonic close?

On a typical weeknight, Sonic closes at 11 p.m. or midnight. Of the 567 drive-ins in our sample that close at all, 32% closed at 11 p.m., 27% at midnight, 18% at 1 a.m. and 11% at 10 p.m. on Mondays.

Roughly a quarter of stores (27%) stayed open past midnight on a Monday, and a few ran until 2 or 3 a.m. Only about 1% closed before 10 p.m.

Is Sonic open 24 hours?

Some Sonic drive-ins are open 24 hours, but only a small share. In our Nov. 1, 2026 sample, 44 of 611 stores (7%) were listed as open around the clock every day, and two more ran 24 hours on some days only.

The 24-hour stores cluster in a few markets, because local owners tend to run their stores the same way. In El Paso, 10 of the 12 stores we checked were open 24 hours, and the Las Vegas area had nine. We also found them around Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Tucson, Columbia, S.C., and Lexington, Ky. Most metro areas had none or one. If you need a 24-hour store, check the hours on its locator page before you rely on it.

Does Sonic stay open later on weekends?

Yes. Many drive-ins push closing time back by an hour on Friday and Saturday. In our sample, 39% of non-24-hour stores stayed open past midnight on Friday, compared with 27% on Monday. Every one of the 12 stores we checked in Lubbock, Texas, closed at 11 p.m. on Monday and at midnight on Friday.

Sunday mornings run the other way. Almost half of the stores (47%) opened later on Sunday than on Monday, and 8 a.m. was the most common Sunday opening time. Sunday closing times matched Monday at 93% of stores.

How late can you order in the SONIC App or get delivery?

App and online orders stop 15 minutes before a drive-in's posted closing time, and delivery stops 45 minutes before. That rule held at every store in our sample that offers those services.

So a store that closes at 11 p.m. stops taking app orders at 10:45 p.m. and stops delivery orders at 10:15 p.m. About 93% of the stores we checked offered delivery, through partners such as DoorDash, Grubhub and Uber Eats. If the app says a store is closed while the lights are still on, this cutoff is usually why. Arrive well before the posted closing time to be safe.

Do Sonic hours differ by region?

Yes, and the differences are bigger than you might expect. Sonic's home turf keeps early hours: 69% of the Oklahoma stores we checked opened by 6 a.m., and so did more than half of stores in Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. In the Southeast, 59% of stores opened at 8 a.m. or later, and in the Ohio Valley and Midwest nearly half did.

Late nights follow a different map. Stores in Georgia, Florida, the Carolinas and Virginia were the most likely to stay open past midnight on a Monday, at 42%. Texas had the fewest late closers, but it also had many 24-hour stores, most of them in El Paso. The West had the highest share of 24-hour stores overall, thanks to Las Vegas and Tucson.
